Favorite Concerti Grossi?
Ever since I found out exactly what a Concerto Grossi was, I've been very attracted to the genre. So what are some of your favorite Concerti grossi? Also I'd like some recommendations for non Baroque concerti grossi if any.

I love the concerti grossi of Pietro Locatelli (1695-1764). They have some nice harmonic and melodic surprises and don't always do what you expect them to do (which I like).
Don't forget that (some of) Bach's Brandeburg Concertos are, to all intents and purposes, concerti grossi - especially Nos 3 and 6.
You already have some good recommendations for non-Baroque concerti grossi, to which I would add the English composer William Alwyn (1905-1985), who wrote three excellent examples in 1943, 1950 and 1964.
In addition, Elgar's 'Introduction and Allegro' is a concerto grosso, setting-off a string quartet against a full string orchestra.

Handel Concerti Grossi Op.6 $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Handel concerti grossi Op.6 or Twelve Grand Concertos, HWV 319330, are 12 concerti grossi by George Frideric Handel for a concertino trio of two violins and violoncello and a ripieno fourpart string orchestra with harpsichord continuo. First published by subscription in London by John Walsh in 1739, in the second edition of 1741 they became Handels Opus 6. Taking the older concerto da chiesa and concerto da camera of Arcangelo Corelli as models, rather than the later threemovement Venetian concerto of Antonio Vivaldi favoured by Johann Sebastian Bach, they were written to be played during performances of Handels oratorios and odes. Despite the conventional model, Handel incorporated in the movements the full range of his compositional styles, including trio sonatas, operatic arias, French overtures, Italian sinfonias, airs, fugues, themes and variations and a variety of dances. The concertos were largely composed of new material: they are amongst the finest examples in the genre of baroque concerto grosso.
