8mm video tape reader. is there one out there obi wan? your my only hope.?
my camcorder played 8mm mp video tapes and it broke. I want to know if there is a device that can read the tapes so I can put them to dvds. I dont want to send them in to be changed to dvd because I have lot and it gets expensive, I think if they do have them I can save a buck.
You'll need to buy another camcorder - only VHS-C had an adapter. There are different types of 8mm camcorder - Video8, Hi8 and Digital8. Probably your best bet is to get hold of a Digital8 camcorder that can read all 3 formats (Sony made some, but I can't remember the model numbers). This will allow you to copy the video to your PC in a digital format via firewire. If your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.
Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker ), save it as DV-AVI (it's under Save on My Computer, Best quality show more choices, Other settings) and then write it to DVD using DVD Flick.
