Progressive Rock (Radio Format) $103.56 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Progressive rock is a radio station programming format that prospered in the late 1960s and 1970s, in which the disc jockeys are given wide latitude in what they may play, similar to the freeform format but with the proviso that some kind of rock music is almost always what is played. The name for the format came from around 1968, when serious disc jockeys were playing progressive music for the head and discussing social issues in between records. When FM broadcasting licenses were first issued by the FCC, broadcasters were slow to take advantage of the new airwaves available to them because their advertising revenues were generated primarily from existing AM broadcasting stations and because there were few FM radio receivers owned by the general public. This void created an opportunity for the disenchanted youth counterculture of the era to express itself by playing music that was largely ignored by mainstream outlets. Wagnerian Rock $92.4 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Wagnerian rock is a musical term which likely originated with Jim Steinman, who is quoted as using the phrase in the liner notes of the Meat Loaf album, Rock N Roll Hero. The phrase is assumed to be inspired by Steinmans love for the music of Richard Wagner and Phil Spector. Amongst writers and reviewers, the term is used to refer to a merger of twentieth century rock and roll and nineteenthcentury opera reminiscent of Wagners and of Spectors Wall of Sound. The music of several other rock artists has been referred to as Wagnerian rock, or simply Wagnerian. The word is sometimes used rather ambiguously in rock writing, referring to such things as bombast, Teutonic style or fantasy lyrics. The term has been applied to music by such diverse artists as progressive heavy metal band Savatage; Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. NeoProgressive Rock $78.07 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Neoprogressive rock (or often shortened to neoprog, not to be confused with the significantly more modern new prog) is a subgenre of progressive rock, developed in the UK and popular in the 1980s, although it lives on today. Neoprogressive rock is characterized by deeply emotional content, often delivered via dramatic lyrics and a generous use of imagery and theatricality onstage. The music is mostly the product of careful composition, relying less heavily on improvised jamming. The subgenre relies very much on clean, melodic emotional electric guitar solos, combined with keyboards. The main musical influences on the neoprog genre are Genesis, Yes, Camel, and Pink Floyd.
