He is no relation to the blues guitarist Robert Johnson. Johnson played early in his career with Jack Holder and Greg Reding, who later became members of Black Oak Arkansas. He also played with Ella Fitzgerald and John Entwistle. With his backing band the Bell Heirs, featuring Dave Cochran on bass and Blair Cunningham, he cut an album entitled Close Personal Friend for Infinity Records in 1979. He is credited with scoring 27 victories during the conflict flying a P47 Thunderbolt. Robert S. Johnson was the first USAAF fighter pilot in the European theater to surpass Eddie Rickenbackers World War I score of 26 victories. He finished his combat tour with 27 kills, was later credited by the Eighth Air Force claims board with a 28th victory when a probable was reassessed as a destroyed, then reduced back to 27 when a postwar review discovered that the Eighth Air Force had inadvertently switched credits for a kill he made with a double kill made by a fellow 56th Fighter Group pilot, Ralph A. Johnson, on November 26, 1943, a day when Robert Johnson aborted the mission after takeoff. (Their Army serial numbers were also nearly identical, O662216 and O662217.) Robert Ward Johnson was born in Scott County, Kentucky. He attended Choctaw Academy and St. Josephs College in Bardstown, Kentucky. He moved with his father to Arkansas in 1821. Johnson studied law and was admitted to the Arkansas bar in 1835. He was elected prosecuting attorney for Little Rock, Arkansas and served from 1840 to 1842 and effectively acted as the states attorney. Johnson took up residence in Helena, Arkansas prior to the Civil War. Johnson was elected to the Thirtieth, Thirtyfirst, and Thirtysecond congresses. Robert Milton Johnson (26 January 1879 25 July 1943) was a Progressive party member of the Canadian House of Commons. He was born in Collingwood Township, Ontario and became a farmer. He was elected to Parliament at the Moose Jaw riding in the 1921 general election. During his term in Parliament, his election was annulled on 22 February 1923 and Johnson left the House of Commons. He made an unsuccessful attempt to win the Willow Bunch seat in the 1925 election. In the 1926 election, Johnson returned to the Moose Jaw riding for another campaign but was also defeated. In the 1935 federal election, Johnson became the Social Credit party candidate for Moose Jaw, but drew the fewest votes of the riding.
