Unlike their previous studio album, Anoraknophobia 2001, which was financed largely by a preorder campaign, it was the publicity campaign that fans financed for the album. Those fans who preordered the album received an exclusive 2CD Deluxe Campaign Edition with a booklet containing the names of everyone who preordered before a certain date. The public release date of the retail singleCD version of the album was May 3, 2004 while a plain 2CD version could still be obtained from the bands website. A limited 500 copy edition was released on white multicoloured vinyl by Racket Records on 13 November 2006. It showed his growing interest in the synthesizer, and its ability to expand the textures of rock music. Much of the album is intensely experimental. The first collection of records to be called an album was Tchaikovskys Nutcracker Suite, released in April 1909 as a fourdisc set by Odeon Records. It retailed for 16 shillings (approximately 56 or US101 in 2005 currency). In 1948, Columbia produced the first 12inch, 33 RPM microgroove record made of vinyl. With a running time of 23 minutes per side, these new records contained as much music as the oldstyle album of records and, thus, took on the name album.
