How do I remove smoke smell from vinyl records?
Hi.
I just bought some 7" records off eBay, but they have arrived stinking of smoke! I've had a look at different ways to remove smoke smells from different things, but not vinyl records. Does anybody know what I can do to get rid of it. it's not too strong, but it still smells and i hate it!
Hope you can all help me, thanks a lot =D
Glyn
Also, how do i remove smoke from the sleeves. Will soap and water be ok, or will it damage them? I'm thinking it will be ok.
DON"T PUT THEM IN THE SUN!!!! They will melt and be ruined.
You can take a large box, place bag of charcoal inside of it, cut a huge section, of the side of the bag facing up, off. Place and old t-shirt, towel, section of newspaper, cooling racks, or other such thing on top of the charcoal but that will allow air flow without the records touching the charcoal, and place the records on that and set the whole thing into a closet or other place and leave them alone for a week or two. The charcoal will absorb any odors and the records will be safe.
EUREKA!!! A dish strainer that you dry washed dishes in would work perfectly for this while separating the records and they would be perfectly safe from scratching and have proper air flow.

Grenadine Records $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Grenadine Records is a Canadian independent record label based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The music label was founded in 1997 by Eric Y. Lapointe and Alex Megelas who met at Bishops Universitys radio station CJMQ 88.9FM. The label, initially named Bittersweet Records, released two 7 vinyl recordings and then quickly changed its name in 1999 when a New York Citybased label of the same name was discovered. The label was officially announced as Grenadine Records as of March 1999 along with its first CD release Syrup Gasoline Vol.1 which was a compilation of bands from across Canada. The labels tagline of Timeless Pop Attitude reflected the labels interest in a variety of pop music with sometimes earlier influences. As of 2006, Grenadine Records was available to Canadian retailers through FAB Distribution and Scratch Distribution and to American retailers through Carrot Top Records, Choke, and Revolver Distribution. Vogue Records $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Vogue Records was a shortlived United States based record label of the 1940s, noted for the artwork embedded in the records themselves. Founded in 1946 as part of SavWay Industries of Detroit, Michigan, the discs were initially a hit, because of the novelty of the colorful artwork, and the improved sound compared to the shellac records dominant at the time. The discs were manufactured by first sandwiching printed illustrations around a core of aluminum, then coating both sides with clear vinyl upon which the grooves were stamped. The company went out of business the following year, having released between 67 and 74 doublesided 78 rpm gramophone records. Some of the Vogue issues were rereleases of recordings originally issued by other companies. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Prawn Song Records $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Prawn Song Records is the record label owned by Les Claypool of Primus. The name and logo are a parody of Led Zeppelins famous label Swan Song Records. The label was created in 1989 for the initial limited release of the Primus live album Suck On This. To fund the release, the band borrowed some money from Claypools father and pressed one thousand vinyl copies of the record. The album was later licensed to independent record label Caroline Records in 1990 for its second pressing, the same label that released the Frizzle Fry album the same year. Primus signed to Interscope Records before their third album Sailing the Seas of Cheese in 1991, who released all of their subsequent albums. Prawn Song was resurrected in 1993 as a subsidiary of Interscope (at the time 50 owned by Atlantic Records, the parent company of the original Swan Song label) for the use of Claypools side projects, Sausage and The Holy Mackerel.
